Briefly Summarizing Known History Of The Property:
Rozzelles Ferry Road
was once a major commercial corridor of Charlotte, NC. Thus,
automobiles and trucks became the principal means of transportation through
this area. Development of structures which catered specifically to the
automobile began to develop rapidly; as early as the 1910's. Thus, the
competition was steep- the more eye-catching and colorful the sign was, the
more likely the passerby's were to stop in for good eats or a goodnight's
sleep! The Chicken King is a prime example of a how a sign, placed
close to the roadway can attract attention, and in doing so increase the
business. Although the Chicken King may not have always been an eatery, it
has existed on Rozzelles Ferry Road since 1936.
