Thus, automobiles and trucks became the principal means of transportation through this area. Seeing as Commonwealth Avenue is located directly off of Central Avenue, it received a lot of pass-through traffic. Inevitably, the epicenter of heavy pass-through transportation, structures which had eye-catch colorful signs which catered to the automobile such as motels and restaurants rapidly became present throughout the area. The Diamond Restaurant is a prime example.
