Briefly Summarizing Known History Of The Property:
North Tryon Street was
formerly known as part of the major commercial corridor US N29 which ran
through Charlotte, NC. Thus, automobiles and trucks became the
principal means of transportation through this area. Filling stations
such as this former Texaco Station attracted the attention of passerby's
traveling along former US N29 in their automobiles. More structures
were beginning to cater specifically to the automobile as they became more
prevalent. Noted architect and industrial designer Walter Dorwin
Teague developed this Functional design for Texaco. It is the finest
example of its type surviving in Mecklenburg County.
