Briefly Summarizing Known History Of The Property:

Central Avenue was once a
major commercial corridor. Thus, automobiles and trucks became the
principal means of transportation through this area. Inevitably, over
time drive-ins, restaurants, eateries, and filling stations; such as the
Former Pure Oil Filling Station became part of the streetscape.
Overall, the presence of structures designed with the automobile in mind
were becoming more prevalent. This English Cottage style station,
which appeared throughout the United States, was fashioned by self-trained
architect Carl A. Petersen. It is the best surviving example in
Mecklenburg County of a Petersen- designed Pure Gasoline Station.
